Poland - Warsaw

First impression of Warsaw

My first impression of Warsaw as we visited in late February of 2022 was “Wow, what?!” The city is enormous, so much bigger than I had initially thought. After visiting Krakow in late autumn of 2021, I kind of thought that Warsaw would have the same vibe and size. Whatever gave me that idea?! Anyways, Warsaw is really nothing like Krakow.

Warsaw is a big city with skyscrapers and high-rise buildings all over the place, not a surprise really if you think of the fact that Warsaw is the capital of Poland with 1,7 million people living in the city center and 3,2 million living in the surrounding areas. That’s not only big, but that’s also huge!

But the city is really versatile, as you can quickly walk from the city center to the older parts of Warsaw. The old town is filled with charming buildings that were reconstructed after the second world war.

The city is filled with a variety of different restaurants in all price ranges, there’s everything from super-fancy to street food. And to be completely honest, I kind of liked the street food more than the fancy. Even though the fancy was really good, I kind of liked the vibe more of the street food places. Visiting a fancy restaurant in a capital city is fancy, no doubt, but the quaint feeling of the street fooders – that’s more my kind of style I think.

Would I recommend Warsaw, absolutely. Would I go back, maybe not. Okay, let me explain that a bit more… Warsaw was great, and I really enjoyed our weekend. The city is beautiful, the food is great and the people are amazing. But since we have been to Krakow and Gdansk as well, I know that there are smaller cities that are more my cup of tea, so with that said – I would rather explore more of Poland and keep visiting new cities.

Have you ever been to Warsaw, or maybe another Polish city?
