Türkiye - Istanbul

First impressions of Istanbul

Once in while you find yourself, wandering around in a new city, wondering why you’ve never been here before.

Thats kind of the feeling I got when I was walking the cobblestone streets of Istanbul. I already knew that I would love to see the city and that I would like. I liked the city before I even visited. Its been once of those cities that not on the bucketlist, but more on the hidden agenda. Does that make sence?

If it doesnt make sence to you, I primise you that it would if you gave the great old city of Istanbul a good try. It has about everything to offer. Speedway drivers undercover as taxidrivers, food plates in sizes to feed an army, sweaty people walking around in 36 degrees celsius, architectural dreams filled with history and the vibrance of a city that never sleeps.

Would I go back?
Sure I would, its an amazing city that I havent even begun to explore, its huge. But I’m not in a hurry to go back, there are so many other places that I havent seen yet thats further up on my go-to places. But when I go back, I will pick a date where its not as warm so you can actually enjoy the adventure without sweating your ass off. And I would stay a bit longer, 3 days was not enough time to even begin to settle in.

So tell me, if you have been to Istanbul, whats your take on the city? And if you havent been, would you like to?

I’d like to go to Istanbul but have been a bit put off in recent years by the high-risk of terrorist activities. I think in hindsight, it’s probably just as safe as any other city. Did you feel safe?

Yes we did feel safe 😊
Its just as you say, the terrorists can strike at any time and any place, so I think you are just as safe in Istanbul as in Paris or Brussels. But I do see your point, theres no need to rush into the fire if you are affaraid to get burned. There are so many other places to visit.

We went to Istanbul a year ago and enjoyed it. I wouldn’t mind going back, but I really fell in love with the rest of Turkey. We did a road trip, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I have not been but really want to go. Like Zara above, I also got a bit put off due to all the terrorist attacks for awhile. But now it feels more safe again (or at least I have realized that the attacks can happen even in my own hometown so there are no reasons to wait).

I can relate to that feeling, the attacks can happend anywhere, but I am trying not to let my fears take control.
You should really visit Istanbul, its a beautiful city. But stay more than a weekend, theres lots to see 😊
